When it comes to bread-making machines, there are two types of people in this world--KitchenAid people and Bosch people. I am a Bosch person. My mother's day/birthday/anniversary presents for the past few years have been this bosch-motored wheat mill and Bosch universal mixer. i think i only need to make about 200 more loaves this they've paid for themselves--and at this rate, that'll be before the year's out!
My dear friend, Kristin, was over here the other day when i was making some bread. Now, bless her heart, this girl has eaten a total of 2 whole grains and 3 vegetables in her life. (I cut her some slack since she's from Texas, where the last line in their pledge of allegience is "a cow a day keeps the doctor away.") She was completely fascinated by the fact that i could put this
and get this
Perhaps, to better understand where she's coming from, I should spend a day at a farm and then a slaughterhouse....yes, i think i'd absolutely LOVE that! :)
Seriously, though, there is only one thing in the world that is better than hot whole wheat bread (with butter and honey..yummmmm). And that is hot whole wheat bread made from freshly ground whole wheat flour. Even Kristin, with her explicit disdain for all that is natural and nutritious, enjoyed a few slices on Sunday.
So, if you're reading this, and you live nearby, and you've never had my bread, and you're not a stalker, please let me know--we'll take right care of that! And if you don't live nearby, but you desparately want some hot bread, then you should think about moving here. I promise it's worth it!!

that might be worth moving there for!!! I have a fabulous french bread recipe you should try out!! and I'm a Bosch girl too. Do you know you can get an ice cream maker attachment... yeah, it's SINFUL!!!
Seriously Emily, do you have to rub it in that we don't live nearby anymore? And do you have to rub it in that you own a Bosch? I may just need to pack up the kids and make a short day trip out to eat some bread.
i've got the grinder, but not the mixer and i know it's way better than a kitchenaid, but i just can't justify buying yet another gadget for our kitchen! maybe someday...
oh yum I love homemade bread!! How have you liked your grinder? It's been on my list of things to buy but I haven't brought myself around to getting it...
ps. did you pick out your granite? Don't worry the decision process gets easier, I'm convinced it's hardest on the first time you remodel something (I now know a lot of things I WOULD have done with our bathroom - hopefully there won't be a repeat any time soon)
I am just in Texas not of Texas, and I, too, can appreciate that bread, even through my computer monitor. Though not as much as if I could eat it! So now you've done it! I'm ready to pack up and move in. I won't complain much, and I promise to sleep through the night, whaddaya think?
OK, if I could move back I would, just for the bread! I have been one the recieving end of your bread and I can testify of it's goodness. And I agree that it is such a great feeling to go from hard wheat to bread all in your own kitchen. Should we start calling you "Grandma Emily" and you can market your bread under that name?!!
Let the record show that I have indeed choked down more than my fair share of vegetables. As any true Texan would testify, I simply prefer the food of my childhood. Because it consists of BBQ brisket, ribs, mashed potatoes, potato salad, etc, we don't waste time or precious stomach space with frivilous food. But, we DO eat bread with our BBQ. Nothing is as good as the homemade kind from Emily's oven! Making your own flour though, that's pretty pioneer of you. :)
Ok... we're gonna have to move to Denver now!
I found you on Denita's blog. One of these days you are going to have to show me how to do that. Jim would love it!
I couldn't agree more. I think I wrote about 50 thank you cards for the Bosch we got for our wedding from Hastings. I absolutely love it! I wish I could taste that bread right now. Beautiful work!
I need to start doing this...since I have a bosch AND a grinder and I've made bread ??twice. You should send me your recipe. I would love to learn to make bread that looks as yummy as yours.
Aww!! That bread looks amazing !! If we come visit you will you make some for us? You'll have to send me your recipe. I've been looking for a good one. I got a Bosch for Christmas last year but looks like I need the grinder too !!
Um, YUM! I'm not a stalker! I want me some bread!
